Concussion Management

My name is Wally Widelski, and I work for Athletico Physical Therapy as part of the team utilizing BNA (Brain Network Activation), a groundbreaking concussion management tool. With all the recent headlines given to the topic of concussions, I wanted to educate you about this state-of-the-art program that we are introducing to Wheaton-Warrenville South Lacrosse.  I believe it will prove a huge benefit to you and your athlete.  Seeing as how more and more sports are becoming contact/collision oriented, the concern for concussion management is warranted.  Without question, this is the case when it comes to the sport of lacrosse.

In short, we have revolutionized concussion management. We have developed the safest and most objective means to determine whether or not your athlete is ready to return to play after a concussive episode.  I have included an attachment with some information about our new BNA program which will help you to achieve an even better understanding of the program and the technology behind it.  You can learn even more at

As a former Division 1 student-athlete and coach at the University of Notre Dame, I fully comprehend the desire to ensure the safety of all participants. Kids want to play.  Coaches want to coach.  At Athletico, we want them all to be able to achieve their goals in the safest manner possible.  My goal is to make sure this technology is readily available to all sport participants so that their parents, coaches, and doctors are reassured that they are definitively ready to get back on the field, ice, court, etc.

Like Athletico, WWS student-athletes strive to be the best both on and off the field. Ultimately, our goal is to provide them with the best resources to help ensure their safety as athletes.  BNA is one of those resources.  The utilization of BNA would allow your organization to set a precedent regarding the safety of youth lacrosse players.  Wheaton-Warrenville South Lacrosse could set itself apart, and be the gold standard to which all other lacrosse organizations are compared, because you would be the first in the state of Illinois to collectively use this most advanced testing measure for lacrosse student-athletes.  This is an incredible differentiator when it comes to future athletes choosing the Tigers over other clubs!

It also sends a powerful message to leagues around the country. More importantly, it affirms why you, as parents, entrust your kids to be a part of Wheaton-Warrenville South Lacrosse.  “WWS personnel teach my child to play hard and love to win, but more importantly, they love my child and want him to enjoy future successes beyond youth lacrosse.”

Being a leader in the industry, we feel it is our responsibility to continually educate community members on topics relevant to their health and wellbeing, and our staff considers it a great compliment to be a part of the Wheaton-Warrenville South Lacrosse family.

I appreciate your interest in our mission to help protect young athletes. We believe strongly in BNA as we feel it will revolutionize the way concussions are managed from this point forward.  We understand that this product is in its infancy, so we are doing our part to align ourselves with like-minded individuals/organizations who are looking to do what’s best for the kids.  My hope is that we can find a way to grow together to put both of our names on the proverbial map.  I think it would speak volumes to current athletes/parents, as well as those to follow, that Wheaton-Warrenville South Lacrosse is on the cutting edge when it comes to educating the entire lacrosse athlete…on the field, in the classroom, and for the future.

I look forward to working with you and seeing how best this Athletico program fits into the future of Wheaton-Warrenville South Lacrosse.

Benefits of the BNA test include:

  • Athletico is the only company in the state of IL (and one of five in the nation) to offer BNA.
  • BNA is the ONLY concussion management tool that directly measures brain function…an unprecedented feat in concussion management. Thus, BNA provides a much more detailed analysis of the injury.
  • BNA is the ONLY concussion test cleared by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
  • Athletes receive a baseline test (2 if under 14 yrs. of age) and ALL POST-INJURY tests for one year from the date of the baseline test. Thus, the test is valid for ALL SPORTS…year round.
  • Athletes can also receive a post-season test (if they choose) as a means of comparison to the baseline test following a rigorous competitive season.
  • The post-injury test is good for non-sport injuries as well (i.e. falls, accidents, etc.).
  • The test is non-invasive and lasts approximately 25 minutes…complete start (instructions, prep, etc.) to finish.
  • Participants can receive baseline test results via email within 24-48 hours.
  • At their request, participants will be directed by Athletico staff members to appropriate sports medicine / neurological physicians who specialize in concussions (or any injury process for that matter).

Additionally, I would like to convey that Athletico goes “above and beyond” when it comes to the wellbeing of our patients, and that is exactly what BNA does when it comes to concussion management. It is a full-service platform…and just like parents, goes the extra mile for their children.

Finally, Wheaton-Warrenville South Lacrosse will receive a preferred discounted rate for BNA testing. Athletico’s introductory rate for the general public is $199.00 for the 2015-2016 season.  However, Wheaton-Warrenville South Lacrosse athletes will receive a rate of $99.00 (a 50% discount) if they complete the BNA test prior to 4/30/16.  This rates include all of the benefits listed above.

Please let me know how I can assist you and further the message of safety for our young athletes.

All the best,

Wally Widelski
